How to Build a Professional Virtual Assistant Portfolio Using Claude AI

Standing out to prospective clients as a Virtual Assistant comes down to one critical asset: a portfolio that proves you can do the work.

Even if you have years of experience, showing a clear sample of past processes builds instant trust with clients and agency recruiters. And if you are brand new with zero client history, you can still build a job ready portfolio by using Claude AI to simulate real-world tasks.

Here is a step by step process to build a professional VA portfolio that lands jobs.

1. Gather Your Core Data

Before opening any AI tool, collect your basic materials. Decide on your primary niche (general admin, executive operations, social media, or technical support) and choose 2 to 3 key skills you want to highlight. If you do not have a polished resume yet, feed your background details into Claude to generate a standard executive support resume first.

2. Create Work Samples (Even Without Past Experience)

Clients care most about how you handle routine operations like inbox cleanup, calendar scheduling, and file management.

  • If you have past experience: Gather real standard operating procedures (SOPs), past metrics, case studies, or testimonials. Always scrub sensitive client information first unless you have explicit permission to share it.

  • If you are a complete beginner: Ask Claude to act as a hypothetical client and generate sample tasks (an unorganized inbox of 50 emails). Complete the challenge and document your step by step process. Show a clear “Before and After” breakdown of how you solved the problem.

Note: Always be honest about using AI to simulate training tasks. Hiring managers value honesty and AI proficiency, they will only penalize you if you try to pass off a fake business as a real client.

3. Build the Interactive Artifact in Claude

Prompt Claude to generate an Artifact, an interactive visual document combining your resume details on one side and your work samples or testimonials on the other. This visual side by side format allows potential clients to verify your skills at a glance.

4. Refine and Publish

Customize the output by applying your preferred colors, adding a personal photo, and double checking the text. Edit out generic AI phrasing so your authentic voice shines through. Once you are satisfied, click Publish Artifact in Claude, copy the web link, and share it directly on job applications.
